New England Hotel Chapter of Hospitality Finance & Technology Professionals Offer The Frank B. Bearse Memorial Scholarship

The New England Hotel Chapter of the Hospitality Finance & Technology Professionals (HFTP) is proud to offer scholarships to students at regional universities named in memory of long-time Chapter member Frank B. Bearse. Up to three (3) scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded in April by the Chapter. Applications will be accepted only between March 1, 2012 and March 30, 2012. The purpose of the scholarship is to financially support students that demonstrate career commitment to either the hospitality technology or accounting disciplines. The scholarships are funded by the Chapter along with the generous support of many vendor participants involved with our annual NE Hotel & Club Technology Show. The scholarships will be presented at the April 11th, 2012 at the NE Hotel & Club Technology Show to be held at the Taj Boston. Please see our schedule page for more details.

Criteria for selection include:
• Student must be enrolled as a full-time student in a New England college or university in either hotel management, accounting, finance or information technology as a major area. Hotel management majors with minor areas in accounting or IT are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Students must be a member of an HFTP student chapter in their school.
• Overall GPA of 2.8 or better on a 4.0 scale with at least 45 semester hours completed. Successful applicants will be required to verify their cumulative GPA.
• An essay for no more than two pages in length describing the student’s commitment to a career in hospitality technology, accounting or finance. This essay should describe what initially attracted the student to this discipline, some of their experiences in the area and how they intend to pursue this discipline as a career.

Transcripts and essays should be forwarded to our Scholarship Board Chair, Paul Dutton. Resumes should be forwarded as well though are optional. A small committee of 4 to 6 people will go through each student’s information individually from which the three winners will be decided.

Frank B. Bearse, CPA was a member of the New England Hotels HFTP Chapter from 1958 until his passing in 2004. While establishing an exemplary public accounting practice and raising a family on Cape Cod, Frank was active in his church, community and profession in many leading roles for his entire long and fruitful life. As a Chapter member, Frank held every officer position, some more than once, and actively participated in the International organization as well. The Chapter is proud to remember his many contributions in this manner.
